1960 NSU Quickly Moped - Vintage Motorcycle AdWorld's most popular Moped - More than 1 million on the road.
While there are many reasons for the world-wide
popularity of the NSU mopeds, the basic reason
is their integral design. The engine and the frame
were designed together and are built together—in the
same factory—so they work together. The Quickly is
not a “motorized bicycle”—it is an entirely new ma-
chine, and it shows its new spirit in every aspect of
its design.
Take the frame, for instance. A giant press stamps
it out as a single, solid unit.
Or the motor. It’s practically indestructible. Cyl-
inders are constructed of a special lightweight metal,
heavily chrome-faced. A filter screens out dust and
produces “calmed air” at the carburetor intake. Re-
sult : reduced engine wear, quieter ride.
Depending on the model, the engine will run 120-
160 miles on a single gallon of gas. You start the
engine with a light kick, like a motorcycle, from the
standing position. There’s no pushing, no need to
furiously pedal.
Springing is the secret of the joyous Quickly ride
—more weight, more springing. The heavier models
utilize four hydraulic shock absorbers enclosed in
four telescopic legs. Two compensator arms on the
front fork (standard on all T models) soak up the
bumps with a lateral motion—smoothing out the road
for you.
Service: a nationwide network. Price: extremely
low due to the tremendous production of Quicklys
(1,000 per day). Models: QUICKLY S (1.3 BHP),
T and TT (1.7 BHP) —50 cc, 2-stroke engines. S has
2 speeds. T and TT have 3 speeds, fan-cooled engine,
dual seats. To guarantee safety, brakes are un-
usually large for a moped. All models have a fresh,
modern look.
