Headed by the brand new 250cc “Leader”, a full range of
popular Ariel models will be continued for 1959. Included
in the range to be offered in the U.S.A., are the lOOOcc “Square
Four”, die 650cc “Cyclone” Twin, the 500cc “Red Hunter”
Single, and the 200cc ohv lightweight “Colt”.
ARIEL LEADER
Here is a brand new idea in two wheeled motor vehicle
design, combining all die most desirable features of the motor-
cycle and the motorscooter. This new, unique, motorcycle fea-
tures pressed steel frame, complete, built-in weather protection
for die rider, and many other features.
Engine Transmission: The Leader is powered by a new,
high efficiency’ 250cc twin cylinder two stroke engine in unit
with a four speed gearbox. Cylinders are separate, with alloy
heads, and all bearings are heavy duty roller or ball type. A
Lucas 500 watt AC generator is employed and ignition is by
high tension coil.
Gearbox is 4-speed with foot control and both primary and
rear chains arc totally enclosed and automatically lubricated.
Frame is built of alloy steel and is immensely strong. Entire
engine-gearbox unit, together with rear wheel can be quickly
detached for easy servicing.
Front fork is of trailing link type with hydraulic control.
Rear suspension is of swinging-arm type with hydraulic con-
trol. Hubs are ftdl width light alloy with powerful, centrally
positioned brakes.
Equipment includes built-in windshield, leg shields, luggage
compartment which can be locked, easy-lift stand, dualseat,
passenger footrests and many other items.
Finish will be an attractive two-tone with many parts in
sparkling chrome plate.
SQUARE FOUR
The only lOOOcc (61 cubic inches) four cylinder motorcycle
in the world, the popular Ariel “Square Four” is continued
to current specifications. An unusually handsome motorcycle
this big four features the unique Ariel twin crankshaft design
with cylinders cast en-bloc in aluminum with steel liners. The
liberally finned alloy cylinderhead has inserted valve seats and
features a four port exhaust system.
The Square Four has a Burman four speed gearbox, and heavy
duty clutch as well as the Ariel patented link-controlled rear
springing which insures constant chain tension and easy riding.
Frame is built of high quality alloy steel and telescopic front
forks with hydraulic control are employed.
Finish is jet black or bright red with gold striping, chrome
panelled five gallon tank, and many parts in heavy chrome
or polished alloy.
CYCLONE TWIN
A husky good looking 650 Twin, the Ariel “Cyclone” features
high horsepower, smooth dependable operation, and an un-
usually fine standard of finish. Engine has high compression
pistons, high-speed camshaft and heavy-duty forged steel crank-
shaft with heavy-duty bearings throughout. T he Cyclone also
has the smooth Burman four speed gearbox and clutch and
incorporates an automatically lubricated, totally enclosed rear
chain. An all welded double tube frame is employed together
with easy riding swinging-arm rear and telescopic front sus-
pension. Hydraulic shock absorbers are built-in.
Finish is Cherokee Red with two-tone red and black tank,
chrome plated sports-type fenders and many other parts in
sparkling chrome or highly polished alloy. Frame is black.
RED HUNTER
For many motorcyclists nothing beats a good, lusty, “Big
Single” and the Ariel Red Hunter 500 is one of the best. Tried
and proven in service all over the world, this famous model
offers fine dependability, good performance, and, with the same
frame and suspension as the Cyclone, good handling and su-
premely comfortable riding qualities.
Engine is 500cc ohv with alloy cylinderhead, and here again
the clutch and gearbox is by Burman. The enclosed and auto-
matically lubricated rear chain is also featured on this model.
Finish is bright Cherokee Red with gold striping with liberal
use of chrome plate and polished alloy. Frame is black.
COLT
Ariel’s bright, snappy, lightweight is the fine performing
bright appearing 200cc ohv “Colt”. "This model features an
alloy head engine, four speed gearbox, spring frame, hydraulic-
ally controlled telescopic fork, and complete equipment. Finish
ARIEL CYCLONE TWIN
is Cherokee Red with white striping with many parts in spar-
kling chrome or polished alloy. Frame is black.
